Mozilla Data Collective datasets are now discoverable through CLARIN’s Virtual Language Observatory (VLO), the discovery service for language resources. Researchers, developers and language technology practitioners can now find multilingual and community-centered datasets alongside other linguistic resources, services and tools. The VLO indexes the dataset metadata, but nothing changes about where datasets are hosted or how they’re governed: data agency stays with uploaders, who set the terms of use, access conditions and documentation. Anyone who finds a relevant dataset through the VLO is directed to Mozilla Data Collective to review the datasheet, licensing and any additional terms.
This is especially useful for multilingual and underrepresented language resources, where context, provenance and community expectations really matter. Mozilla Data Collective datasets come with detailed documentation covering not just what a dataset contains, but how it was created, what it’s intended for and what conditions apply. The goal is better discovery as part of better stewardship: connecting people looking for high-quality linguistic data with the communities who created it, while keeping community ownership at the center.
