ELAR is excited to share the news that the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme will offer in-person training in Language Documentation and Archiving from June 30 to July 4, 2025 in Berlin, Germany. Applications to participate in the training series are due 15 February 2025.

Berlin Training in Language Documentation and Archiving 2025
June 30 - July 4, 2025
The Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (ELDP) is offering in-person training in Language Documentation and Archiving from Monday, June 30th through Friday, July 4th, 2025. The training will take place in Berlin, Germany at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences.
The training will cover the following topics:
• Language Documentation theory & methods
• Understanding and creating archival collections
• Audio and video recording methods
• Transcription, translation, and annotation with ELAN
• Lexicography and dictionary creation with Fieldworks Language Explorer (FLEx)
• Metadata creation and managing data
• Project planning and design
• Grant writing for language documentation projects
This five-day intensive training will involve hands-on practice, including homework assignments to be completed each evening. The language of instruction is English. Applicants should have demonstrated commitment and/or plans to carry out the documentation of an endangered language.
There are 20 places available and the cost for participation is 250 Euros. Participants will need to arrange their own travel and accommodations in Berlin. For more information and to apply, please click here.
