We are aware that some users are experiencing issues loading our website when using Safari on Mac or iOS (iPhone/iPad), where the page shows a HTTP 500 error.
This is caused by a recent compatibility issue between Safari’s strict privacy updates and our server protection layer (Anubis). It is causing the browser to randomly reject verification cookies. The issue is being actively tracked by the open-source community here:
How to work around it for now:
If you run into this, the quickest workarounds are:
- Try again: Simply try again, either by clicking “Back” in your browser, or accessing the original URL again. In our tests, a second attempt always works.
- Include “https://” in the URL you type. In our tests, the error is never triggered when accessing the website via https from the start.
- Switch browsers: Use Chrome, Firefox, or Brave on your device, which seem to be unaffected.
Note: The CLARIN Discovery Service (discovery.clarin.eu) is no longer affected, as for the time being we have removed Anubis from its request pipeline.
We sincerely apologize for the friction this is causing and are keeping a close eye on a permanent upstream fix ahead of our upcoming annual conference.
