VLO 4.14.0 is now live in production

A new version of the VLO (Virtual Language Observatory) is now live at
https://vlo.clarin.eu, after we finished our beta testing

Changes in this version include:

  • Tombstone records for removed records. When a record is removed from the index, a minimal “tombstone” with basic information about it is now retained. Visiting the record’s former address shows an informative page (returning an HTTP 404 “not found” status) instead of a generic error.
  • Improved search suggestions. Autocomplete now prioritizes the most relevant imported fields and no longer suggests e-mail addresses and other low-value values.
  • We have also upgraded several of the tools and frameworks the VLO is built on, including Apache Tomcat 10, Wicket 10, Spring 6 and the Jakarta EE 9 APIs, together with an updated Solr client and various dependency and security updates.

More details including links to GitHub issues can be found in the changelog. Feel free to leave any feedback below, or send an e-mail to vlo@clarin.eu

Thanks to everyone who tried out the new version. We have received some additional feedback on the autocomplete (for special character words), for which we discussed a solution and will address it in 4.15.
