VLO 4.13.0 available for beta testing

A new version of the VLO is now available for testing at https://beta-vlo.clarin.eu

Changes in this version include:

  • A new field “alternative name” for records that provide an alternative name such as a short name or an abbreviation has been added. This field is shown on the record page and indexed for querying.
  • A “first seen” field that contains the date and time at which a record was first encountered (or first processed after temporary removal) has been added. This field is shown in the technical details of a record.
  • Facets that have an active selection are now expanded on page load
  • References to deprecated CLARIN website content (specifically FAQs) have been removed from the “Help” page
  • The broken MultiTree links have been removed from the language info pages

More details including links to GitHub issues can be found in the changelog.

Any feedback is welcome! Write a comment below, or send an e-mail to vlo@clarin.eu.

Thank you, Twan. I am not able to find the new features or fixes that you mention. Maybe include some examples?

One suggestion about the Help: altough it is comprehensive and easy to browse the topics, some users might also appreciate the brief demo you created for the Intro to CLARIN: 2. Virtual Language Observatory (VLO) | CLARIN ERIC - Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure . You could link it to the Help page or refer the users to the tutorial directly from the landing page of the VLO.

Thanks for the suggestions, Iulianna! I will defnitely add a link to the material in the learning hub to the help page!

As for examples that illustrate the new features:

  • The record “Aleksis Kivi Corpus (SKS)" which can also be found by its alternative name as displayed in the record details: “Kivi”
  • The technical details for the same record shows that it was first “seen” by the VLO on 14 February 2026 (note that it was most likely seen before that, but this was the first date it was imported with the new version of the VLO supporting this field)
  • This link capturing a facet-based search for corpora containing Welsh or Scots opens with the used facets (Language and Resource type) already expanded
