Workshop: Methodological reflections and practical applications of LLMs for the Social Sciences and Humanities

Hello everyone

In the context of the SSHOC-NL project we, Task 3.1 on methodologically sound data enrichment, would like to invite to our second in-person workshop of the year: Methodological reflections and practical applications of LLMs for the Social Sciences and Humanities. It consists of two parts. In the morning session, three speakers will guide you through different aspects of LLMs: how do they work, what are some of its pitfalls, how are they evaluated, how are they biased, … In the afternoon session we’ll walk through a Python notebook together where we’ll train a simple named entity recognition system on our own data, create new synthetic training data with LLMs, train a new model with the augmented data, and evaluate and compare with our baseline. This workshop is organized by Task 3.1 in the context of methodologically sound data annotation and evaluation (VU and INT). The workshop will be held in-person at the VU in Amsterdam. Participation is free but registration is required. So please only register if you are intending to actually join us in-person!
